Falcons join Idol!

January 17 - 19 was the date for the Pinoy Idol auditions that is a franchise of Freemantle awarded to GMA 7 for operation this coming Summer. Yes! the search for the first singing sensation will rock the Philippines soon. We are very fortunate that Idol's first stop is of course here at the City of Golden Friendship.

Of course the MdO Performing Arts Group talents were prepared to take on the challenge. 3 days 3 girls devoted their time and effort to prepare themselves for the 3 day auditions. And on January 17 , two of the girls committed themselves in joining the competition, this time with no turning back! The girls exuded confidence and had a few shares of butterflies  in their stomach and so did your teambloggista correspondent!

The doors at SM opened at 10AM and the PAG girls Kaye Pates and Jay Angela Omana cued up to register.  They were escorted by their voice coach Ms. Mel, Performing Arts Group Director Sir Raul Prima, choreographer Coach Tata , Academic Director and Talent Coordinator Ms. Alexandria H. Reyes, The Directress Mrs. Dolores H. Reyes and your teambloggista correspondent, the girls family and friends. With all the support the girls had high spirits!

Like most auditions the girls waited and waited and by 4 Pm Kaye was called in the Pre-Casting room where a panel of judges were ready to listen to Kaye's repertoire. After Kaye's performance she was given a blue ticket which meant that she was through the next round. Jay of course was also successful in getting the blue ticket afterall this girl is a pro . Day 1 finished with a high note for the girls.

Day 2 , the tension was high , there were only about a 100 singers waiting at the SM activity center. By 4pm Kaye was asked to prepare herself for the Pinoy Idol judges! Kaye's supporters were asked to accompany her , the supporter's were asked questions about Kaye by none other than the host Raymond Guttierez. Inside the audition room Kaye had to face Ogie Alcacid, Jolina Magdangal, and Wyngard Tracy.  Since your teambloggista cannot divulge what transpired in the audition room- let me just say that our Kaye made it through and got the coveted yellow pass! After a few hours and some jitters Jay went through the same process as Kaye and  Jay also made it! Jay wowed the judges with her powerful repertoire of songs. Now two of MdO's pride will be competing with 100 best singers in the whole of the Philippines in Metro Manila soon. So, let us give our full support to Kaye and Jay as they sing their hearts out in Pinoy Idol!

Senioritis!

Kindergarten was easy after a few weeks of getting accustomed to being away from Mom all day. Elementary was all about making projects and learning to write neatly in cursive. Then came graduation  and it was suddenly all about friends and social standing. Finally high school arrived and then came the excitement of new friends , getting a cellphone, proms, and even seeing hearts all over. After what seemed like a lifetime of classes, teachers, lectures, and cramming you finally reach the coveted Senior Year! You get to first semester thinking you're big and bad because you're in 4th year high school. You figure you can sit back and make fun of freshmen as you cruise through your classload and enjoy with your friends. Then comes the x-mas break  and you're halfway there!

You come back from an awesome break, and you are in the homestretch. So you've finally made it to the last few months of high school, but suddenly there's a strange disease creeping up that makes your brain turn to mush and your motivation disappear... it's called "senioritis"...

Senioritis can strike at the oddest moments. Suddenly the classes you used to pay attention in aren't as exciting. Assignments that used to get prepared the night before are scribbled in the five minutes before class. If it gets really serious grades can be affected and people have even been known to dropout in severe cases.

There are ways to avoid this condition if proper steps are taken early enough. Identifying it is easy enough by checking for the following symptoms:

1. Lack of interest in any class, even classes which previously prompted interest.

2. Lack of enthusiasm in anything school related.

3. Procrastination on assignments.

4. Skipping classes on a regular basis for no particular reason.

5. Lack of participation in class.

6. Previously strong academic student becomes more interested in just "having fun."

If you or someone you know is experiencing more than two of these symptoms and just happens to be a high school senior, he or she may have "senioritis." It's a sad thing, but don't despair. There are ways to combat its effects and finish strong.

The most important way to avoid getting infected with senioritis is to remember what is waiting at the end. Graduation is a time to reward those who stayed strong the whole time. It's not easy to stay focused when you know it's almost over, and you can't wait to graduate, but holding on the last three months is worth the effort. Keep the future in mind. If you're collegebound by June, you'll be a lot better off if you ended high school well, than if you goofed off the last semester. Even if you're just going to get a two year course after graduation, it will look better for you if your grades didn't do a fourth quarter dive into the red zone .

No matter how much you want to just stay up late and talk with your friends, no matter how enticing the 2nd hour nap sounds, stick out the last few months. Finish what you started. You don't have to study day and night, but put in the effort to make it through. Then senioritis will never get the best of you. You too can survive this and get out with grades unscathed. So, go study!

Tweenology!

There's a particular stage in a person's life when they feel awkward. Not a little kid anymore but not a teenager yet. Well, welcome!  if you are in the 4th-6th Grade, you are probably in the tween age years!

This is to help you survive your tween-age years!

When kids hit their tweens, it’s normal for them to start asserting their own personalities and wanting to make their own choices, including what they are going to eat and when they are going to eat it. Often, this is the time kids drop the habit of eating breakfast before they leave the house. Because breakfast is so important, tweens should make sure there's something easy, quick and great tasting available. Tweens who have had something to eat in the morning are more active, alert and perform better in school, than those who haven't eaten- so remember to eat breakfast!

Exploring your creativity

With so much emphasis put on sports for tweens, I thought it was worth mentioning the importance of the arts in your lives. We are fortunate that Montessori de Oro has a very strong arts program (music, dance , hosting , yes the performing arts) and MdO have wonderful teachers who encourage students to explore their talents. Participating in the arts is a great way to build self confidence and self esteem. It has also been shown to improve academic performance.

Hydration

We all know how important it is to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. But, do you pay attention to how much water you tweens are drinking? With all the other sugary beverages available, it's important to make sure you are drinking lots of water. Make sure water is available throughout the day. If you're into sports,  can't stress hydration enough.

Tweens and bodyspray

If you are a tweenage boy you know what I'm talking about! You are just as likely to have the scent of Axe  wafting through your home as you are Febreeze! Well I guess its better to wear bodyspray than to stink in the aircondtioned rooms of MdO. For those that are growing up fast,  its okay to ask your Parents to include you in their deodorant or antiperspirant budget also.It is part of growing up.

Tweens room style

As a tween we know you need to express yourself with fashion, music, and even your space! The interior design market is huge right now and there are endless options out there in every price range for you  to decorate your room with. Keep in mind functionality, versatility, quality and comfort. Don't underestimate the power of paint! It's an inexpensive way to completely redefine a space.Posters are fun too. Remember when you use fads whats cool today may not be cool tomorrow!

Grade school can be really rough for the organizationally challenged tween! More work, assignments, projects - It's a jungle out there! Try to  get it together by organizing, making lists, having the right supplies and not procrastinating. These are life skills that will not only benefit you as a tween now, but will help you when you become an  adult also.

Being a tween is fun too so enjoy your tweenage years!

Your teambloggista was at the Araneta!

Your teambloggista was there to watch the action , but this time it was at the lower box  but still its something to talk about.

At 5 pm your teambloggista correspondent assembled together with the Rizalicious team at the southgate of the Araneta. Your teambloggista correspondent  met Riza's Mom and Riza's road manager from Viva. They are very nice people , they were giving out sandwiches and Summit water to the Riza supporters. Your teambloggista correspondent was wearing a pink shirt to show support for Riza. Your teambloggista correspondent helped in giving out the  Pink and green balloons to all Rizalicious fans.

Why Riza? the answer is why not! Riza is a good role model to the youth, she is devoted to God and is a tough cookie to crack.  Riza loves makeup and I guess as a beauty queen it is her duty to look good always. Riza is a true beauty queen , always gracious and disciplined, kind , determined , and conscientious.

Yes , your teambloggista correspondent was there to help Riza's camp.  Although , your teambloggista's a Riza fan, Will is her ultimate crush and so your teambloggista couldn't resist but ask for a  " Will you marry me " shirt . Yup ,your teambloggista correspondent is so  thrilled to have it!  Will is the man !

The Araneta was organized with Gaby fans sitting in the lower box of the Araneta with Gaby posters all over.  Riza's fans all over the Araneta and your team bloggista is not exaggerating!  Will's supporters were organized with their gold hats and balloons and shirts.According to an Abs- CBN forumer Riza was neck- neck with Gaby, Will would be 3rd and Ruben is definitely last.    Ruben only had 1/8 of the Araneta yet he won. Don't know how they pulled it off - your teambloggista wants to stay positive so let's leave it at that...
